Guidance for the righteous

To the Editor:

I am deeply saddened at the horrific shooting that occurred in San Bernardino. It is a tragedy that so many lives were lost, all in the name of Islam. Farook and Malik were said to be deeply religious. I too consider myself deeply religious. Unlike them I follow Islam.

I follow Islam where it states clearly in the Quran “that you slay not the soul, the slaying of which Allah has forbidden”(Chap 6, v 152). Also, where it states, “And create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order” (Chap 6, v 57). Similarly, where it states, “O ye who believe, Obey Allah, and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you” (Chap 4, v 60). Farook and Malik did none of these things, instead they slaughtered innocent people, they created disorder in San Bernardino and they did not obey the government.

Ultimately, the Quran states, “It is a guidance for the righteous” (Ch.2 v.3). The shooters lacked righteousness and therefore were never guided by it. I am still grieving for those innocent victims and for their surviving families; I hope they find peace in their lives one day.
