Thanking all mothers on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 14,. As an American Ahmadi Muslim who has seen some of the many prevailing stereotypes regarding the status of women in Islam, I would like to highlight the status Islam confers upon mothers.

The Holy Quran states, “Worship God and join not any partners with Him; and be kind to your parents…” (4:37). Thus, it is absolutely essential for every Muslim to treat his or her parents with the utmost kindness and respect as God has placed kindness to parents with commandment for his worship in this verse.

In addition, the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him), stated, “Heaven lies under the feet of your mother” (Ahmad). This further highlights the special status of mothers in Islam that teaches love, respect, and honor for mothers as a means of salvation.

I would like to pray that all mothers have a wonderful Sunday this weekend and that we can all take a moment each and every day of our lives to thank our loved ones.
