Michael Jackson once sang, “It don’t matter if you’re black or white,” but apparently it does matter as is evident by the racial tension across America the past few months, starting with the Ferguson case and the subsequent protests.
Then came the brutal murders of two New York City police officers. As a member of the Ahmadi Muslim Youth Association, I condemn the actions on both sides. Prophet Muhammad of Islam has stated, “A white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white except by piety and good action.”
America has always been a nation based on equality, and it was among the founding principles of the Union. Yet, outcries such as rioting and killings are uncalled for, as we should remain peaceful and obey the authority, as stated in the Holy Quran, “ O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the messenger and those of you who are in authority.”
I pray that as we start 2015, that we as a nation can come together as one and finally are able to look past our color, creed and religion.
