The shooting at a local Sikh temple outside Milwaukee is extremism in its worst form. It was an attack on all places of worship and on religious freedom.
My heart aches for my Sikh brothers who have lost loved ones in this tragic incident; my faith (Islam) teaches me that all places of worship are precious and should be protected. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution also protects this ideal of religious freedom. The suspect, a military veteran, committed an act that goes against the principles for which this nation stands.
The principle of religious freedom exists so that we can all live equally and safely. Our places of worship can only be safe from extremism when we all hold these principles to the highest levels.
