Today marks the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon terrorist attack. The impact of this act and the innocent lives lost that day are still fresh in our memories.

While the Quran promotes the sanctity of life: “Whosoever killed a person, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind; and whosoever saved a life, it shall be as if he had saved all mankind” (5:33), the Tsarnaev brothers tried to portray Islam as a religion of terror and destruction. By preferring to follow a perverse ideology of terrorism rather than the Quranic instruction not to create disorder on Earth (2:12-16), they clearly demonstrated they were not true Muslims.

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, my heartfelt condolences go to those whose loved ones were killed or hurt in this heinous act of violence. Also, I pray for the safety of the Boston Marathon participants and spectators this year.
